This was the first time after 9/11 that such a large number of stakeholders from public and private sector get together and decided to develop a collaborative approach for the revival of tourism in Pakistan. It is expected that this conference will help in
creating a lasting collaborative
relationship among tourism industry stakeholders to jointly work for the sustainable growth of tourism in Pakistan and to build the image of
Pakistan at global level.
STFP actively participated in this conference as a collaborating partner. Aftab Rana, President of STFP was invited as a guest speaker in the inaugural session to talk about the national tourism policies and possibilities. He stressed about the need to create a national tourism board to establish effective collaboration among all the provinces, AJK and BG to jointly work to promote public-private partnerships in tourism and build the image of Pakistan as a tourist friendly country. He also stressed on the role of provincial tourism bodies to ensure the effective management of tourist resorts by developing destination
management plans as most of the cultural sites and scenic places are losing its charm due to environmental
degradation because of the uncontrolled development and over crowding at tourist places. He highlighted that the concept of sustainable tourism should
be followed to minimize the negative impacts of tourism and ensure local community development.
STFP highly acknowledge the efforts of Mr. Aziz Boolani, the CEO of Serena Hotels for planning and executing this initiative and bringing all the stakeholders together at one platform for a national cause.
